The European Summer School on Artificial Intelligence (ESSAI & ACAI) is commencing at the Faculty of Computer and Information Science, University of Ljubljana. The event hosts 60 recognized domestic and international experts, along with over 500 participants from 42 countries. The conference will pay special attention to the application of artificial intelligence in science.

The Slovenian Society for Artificial Intelligence (SLAIS), in collaboration with the University of Ljubljana, Jožef Stefan Institute, and University of Primorska, is hosting the first edition of the European Summer School on Artificial Intelligence (ESSAI & ACAI) this year. It will take place from July 24 to July 28, 2023, at the Faculty of Computer and Information Science, University of Ljubljana. The ESSAI & ACAI 2023 Summer School is under the honorary patronage of the President of the Republic of Slovenia, Dr. Nataša Pirc Musar.

The school is organized by the European Association for Artificial Intelligence (EurAI) and aims to become a central meeting point for students, researchers, and professionals to discuss current research and exchange knowledge in the field of artificial intelligence. This year's summer school will feature 36 different courses and lectures covering diverse areas of artificial intelligence. Distinguished experts from universities such as Stanford, Yale, Washington, Oxford, Cambridge, KU Leuven, TU Darmstadt, Sapienza University of Rome, French CNRS, as well as companies like Google DeepMind, Microsoft, and VMware Research, will be delivering lectures. Currently, there are already over 500 registered participants from all parts of Europe, North and Latin America, and Asia for ESSAI & ACAI 2023. Applications are still open for participants who wish to attend the courses and lectures remotely. Additionally, two roundtable discussions will be held, one on "Artificial Intelligence and Society" and the other on "Artificial Intelligence for Science."

Slovenia has a highly active community in the field of artificial intelligence, comprising both academic researchers and industry experts. ESSAI & ACAI 2023 will provide an opportunity for this community to interact with top scientists from around the world and young individuals who have only recently encountered this increasingly attractive field. ESSAI & ACAI 2023 could significantly impact the development of artificial intelligence in Slovenia, as such events facilitate new connections for the local scientific community and industry, serving as a basis for future collaboration among participants. Furthermore, ESSAI & ACAI will draw the attention of the broader international public and bring numerous opportunities for cooperation and development to Slovenian science and industry.

The opening event will take place on Monday, July 24, 2023, at 6:00 PM in the main lecture hall of the Faculty of Computer and Information Science, University of Ljubljana. During the opening event, the President of the Republic of Slovenia, Dr. Nataša Pirc Musar, will address the participants of the ESSAI & ACAI 2023 Summer School. Alongside the summer school, two roundtable discussions will be held, one titled "Artificial Intelligence for Science" and the other titled "Artificial Intelligence for Society." The latter, taking place on Tuesday, July 25, 2023, at 6:00 PM, will also feature the participation of the President of the Republic of Slovenia, Dr. Nataša Pirc Musar.
