TEACHER TRAINING

The teacher training programmes are intended to upgrade professional knowledge in relation to didactic skills for introducing new features in educational work in primary and secondary schools.

Each year the Faculty of Computer and Information Science issues calls for modernised programmes for teachers of computer and information science at primary and secondary schools, and these are published in the Catalogue of programmes for continuing education and training of professional education workers for the 2015/16 academic year.

Registration for the programme is exclusively electronically, via the KATIS web application. If you have any questions, please contact sk@fri.uni-lj.si.

PRIMARY SCHOOLS

Computer science without a computer

  • Registration deadline: 15 April 2016 (or up until places are filled)
  • Implementation date: 6 to 20 May 2016
  • Place: FRI, Večna pot 113, Ljubljana
  • Target group: The seminar will cover the content of the new non-compulsory elective subject Computer Science in the 5th grade of primary schools, but the topics are also suitable for other subjects and ages of children.
  • Contact person: Janez Demšar
  • Registration fee: EUR 10

The aim is to present basic computer concepts in what is for learners (and teachers) an attractive format, requiring no computer use but rather being based on didactic games and learning materials. Classes in this format are intended for the non-compulsory subject Computer Science in the 5th grade (starting in 2015/16), but can also be used in a study circle, in extended stays or as an enhancement of other subjects ranging from mathematics to sports education. The emphasis of the seminars will not be on theory but on practical implementation and on tips for specific situations.

Learning computer science by means of the Bober (Beaver) competition

  • Registration deadline: 11 September 2015 (or up until places are filled)
  • Implementation date: 2, 3 and 10 October 2015
  • Place: FRI, Večna pot 113, Ljubljana
  • Target group: Teachers of the second and third triad of primary school.
  • Contact person: Communication Office
  • Registration fee: EUR 10

The aim is to train teachers so that in computer science they can make more common use of a competition, specifically the Bober competition, as a motivation tool for encouraging learners to learn computer concepts, to think about them and for raising a general interest in the field of computer science. The training will bring together the solving of competition tasks and lectures on their computer science background. Participants will have a better grounding in preparing learners for the competition, and in particular they will understand the computer science background to the tasks, and will be able to include them in other subjects and circles.

Setting up mobile applications

  • Registration deadline: 24 September 2015 (or up until places are filled)
  • Implementation date: 7, 14 and 21 November 2015, from 9 am to 5 pm
  • Place: FRI, Večna pot 113, Ljubljana
  • Target group: The seminar will cover content suitable both for children in the third triad of primary school and for all primary school teachers as an aid in creating their own didactic tools.
  • Contact person: Ciril Bohak
  • Registration fee: EUR 10
  • Kotizacija: 10 €

The main aim is to create a modern and simple approach to developing mobile applications for primary school pupils (and teachers), who do not need any additional software or hardware for development. Such development of applications is well suited to primary school pupils, for it uses existing knowledge (for instance an understanding of the Scratch programming language). Equally, such a method of developing applications is also appropriate for teachers, who in this way can create their own didactic aids for use in classes.

PRIMARY & SECUNDARY SCHOOL

Learning about programming and robotics with Leg Mindstorms

  • Registration deadline: 24 September 2015 (or up until places are filled)
  • Implementation date:15, 16, 19, 20, 21 October 2015 from 2 to 7 pm
  • Place: FRI, Večna pot 113, Ljubljana
  • Target group: Secondary school teachers and teachers of the final triad of primary school
  • Contact person: Communication Office
  • Registration fee: EUR 10

The primary aim of this programme is to present to teachers who still are not familiar with the platform the possibilities for its use for learning computer concepts, especially programming, in a simple and attractive way. During practical work in the training course teachers will acquire sufficient knowledge and experience to be able to use the platform independently in the classroom. They will learn using the EV3 graphic programming language, which owing to its visual imagery is appealing to children and easy to master.

Programming Lego Mindstorms robots in the Python language

  • Registration deadline: 5 November 2015 (or up until places are filled)
  • Implementation date: 12, 13, 16, 17 and 18 November from 2 to 7 pm
  • Place: FRI, Večna pot 113, Ljubljana
  • Target group: Secondary school teachers and teachers of the final triad of primary school
  • Contact person: Communication Office
  • Registration fee: EUR 10

The primary aim of this programme is to present to teachers who still are not familiar with the platform the possibilities for its use for learning computer concepts, especially programming, in a simple and attractive way. During practical work in the training course teachers will acquire sufficient knowledge and experience to be able to use the platform independently in the classroom. During the seminar teachers will learn about the Python language, then use it to programme a Lego Mindstorms robot.

SECONDARY SCHOOLS
