The 34th European Summer School in Logic, Language, and Information - ESSLLI 2023, with its attractive program, has attracted 320 participants from around the world to Ljubljana. It will take place at the Faculty of Computer and Information Science, University of Ljubljana (UL) from July 31st to August 11th, 2023.

This two-week summer school has a long tradition, being held annually since 1989 in different European cities. It offers courses and thematic workshops in the fields of logic, linguistics, and computer science to participants, primarily doctoral students and young researchers. Due to its highly interdisciplinary nature, it is a unique event in Europe, serving as a main meeting point for young researchers and students in the mentioned disciplines, providing them with a unique space for discussion, knowledge exchange, and collaborative development of new ideas.

This year the summer school is organized by the Faculty of Computer and Information Science and the Faculty of Philosophy, University of Ljubljana, in collaboration with the Slovenian Language Technologies Society and the Slovenian Society for Informatics. Over 80 professors from 23 different countries are involved in co-creating the program, which will feature 53 seminars and workshops held in seven parallel sections over the course of two weeks.

Additionally, the school traditionally includes evening plenary lectures (at 7:00 PM in lecture hall PA) by prominent foreign and domestic researchers. These lectures are open to the broader public and present the latest scientific achievements in all three disciplines. This year's lecture program is as follows:

August 1st: Marko Robnik-Šikonja, Large language models for cross-lingual transfer,

August 3rd: Malvina Nissim, Language Technology Society,

August 8th: Beniamino Accattoli, The Cost of the lambda Calculus and the Semantics of Sharing,

August 10th: Darja Fišer, The Good, the Bad and the Ugly of Language Technology Infrastructure.

The summer school will commence with the opening ceremony on July 31st at 6:45 PM at the Faculty of Computer and Information Science, UL. Representatives from the Ministry of Digital Transformation, the Municipality of Ljubljana, the University of Ljubljana, and the organizing committee of the school will welcome the participants. Besides the educational program, attendees and lecturers will have the opportunity to socialize and explore various trips throughout Slovenia.
