This project is intended to evaluate a hardware implementation of some fast and effective algorithms for losless compression of medical images and to develop an FPGA prototype platform.
In this project we will test and evaluate some simple compression algorithms that are based on prediction instead of integral transformations. The algorithms will be implemented in FPGA chips that enables emulation and evaluation in real-time. The required hardware resources and power dissipation will be also evaluated.
Goals of this project:
defining the parameters of 2D and 3D medical images, which are required in the evaluation of compression algorithms
evaluation of compression algorithms implemented in FPGA
implementation and testing of a hardware (FPGA) prototype
joint publications in refereed international journals and conferences
