This year, FRI will once again host the traditional university competition in autonomous robot programming, Robo League FRI.
The main task of the competing teams is to build a robot capable of autonomously completing a variety of tasks. This year's challenge takes the robots to the construction site of a new residential neighbourhood, where they take on the role of either a construction worker or an environmentalist. The construction worker must collect as much building material as possible within a limited time and deliver it to the construction base, while the environmentalist must plant as many trees as possible. In doing so, the construction worker must skilfully navigate between the trees and avoid colliding with them. Teams will work on improving their robots from October until the grand final on 3 December 2026.
Competing teams need basic programming skills and enthusiasm for building with LEGO bricks. Competitors develop a program that runs on a LEGO Mindstorms EV3 robot. They can choose from a variety of programming languages, with Python being the most popular.
More information about Robo League FRI 2026 is available on the Robo League FRI website.
Teams can register via the registration form. The registration deadline is 18 October 2026.
