The American Slovenian Education Foundation (ASEF) fellowship program offers funding for a 10 week summer research visit to a U.S. university or research institution. Financial support allows talented students to focus on their research and realize their full potential.


The purpose of the fellowship that provides funding for travel, housing and living expenses is to strengthen research and study exchanges between Slovenia and the U.S. Applications are open to full time students enrolled in a higher education institution in Slovenia. A typical applicant is a senior undergraduate, masters, or junior PhD student. The deadline for applications is 15 April 2015.

The fellowship provides funding for research visits to the following research groups: 

Computer science:

  • University of California Berkeley. Prof. Dawn Song works on computer security including software security, web security, mobile security, as well as new programming language technologies for building secure web and mobile applications and systems.
  • University of Southern California. Prof. Jernej Barbič works on computer graphics and animation.
  • Stanford University. Prof. Jure Leskovec works on on mining and modeling large social and information networks, their evolution, and diffusion of information.

Computational and molecular biology:

  • University of California, San Francisco. Prof. Andrej Šali works on computational structural biology.
  • University of California, San Francisco. Prof. Matija Peterlin works on molecular biology, immunology, virology and genetics to tackle intractable immunodeficiencies.
