• PKP 1 - Development of advanced analytical tools for improvement of building systems operational efficiency
The Client : Javni sklad RS za razvoj kadrov in štipendije ( PKP 1 )
Project type: Projects Structural Funds
Project duration: 2014 - 2014
  • Description

Existing building systems, cannot fully harness the potential of energy savings, especially those that could be achieved by predicting the buildings response or future state (e.g. taking into account future weather conditions or occupancy).

The aim of the project was to develop and test a simulation model for more efficient energy use and determinations of the operational parameters of the building in relation to future conditions (e.g. use of thermal accumulation to lower peak consumption, use of energy of surroundings for night cooling in summer, pre-heating of the building due to the expected temperature minimum, etc.).

For this purpose, different scenarios, user groups with energy profiles and the possibility of integrating various solutions into typical control equipment, have been created. A theoretical assessment of possible savings was made.

The simulation model includes a weather forecast, automatically obtained from the ARSO website. For the simulation of the buildings response, the following parameters are used: air temperatures, (for the preparation of heating and cooling systems), humidity (affects the ventilation) and solar irradiation (effect shading devices operations).

As a test environment, a classroom was selected based on the knowledge of the key influential values (weather, occupancy ...), the possibilities of automation (shades, HVAC...) and user profile profiles (obtained through observation). The simulation of buildings response was made.
