Damjan Vavpotič je redni profesor na Fakulteti za računalništvo in informatiko Univerze v Ljubljani in predstojnik Laboratorija za informatiko. Na raziskovalnem področju se primarno ukvarja s procesi razvoja informacijskih sistemov in v okviru tega še zlasti z agilnimi pristopi ter pristopi k vpeljevanju in evalvaciji razvojnih procesov v organizacijah. V tem kontekstu se ukvarja tudi z varnostjo informacijskih sistemov, konkretneje s prilagajanjem z varnostjo povezanih zahtev za programsko opremo profilom uporabnikov. Poleg tega se ukvarja tudi s pristopi za obdelavo in analizo longitudinalnih podatkov z upoštevanjem geografske lokacije na področju zdravstva in turizma, kjer je bil za svoje prispevke tudi nagrajen. V okviru svoje strokovne dejavnosti je do danes vodil in sodeloval pri vrsti projektov, ki so med drugim obsegali: pripravo razvojnih procesov, vpeljevanje in evalvacijo metodologij razvoja informacijskih sistemov v organizacije, evaluacijo digitalne zrelosti organizacij za potrebe digitalnega prehoda, pripravo strateških načrtov informatike, analizo in načrtovanje informacijskih sistemov in relacijskih podatkovnih baz ter implementacijo in testiranje informacijskih sistemov.
